- Wash the blueberries thoroughly and pat them dry. Halve the blueberries lengthwise or lightly crush larger berries so they don't remain as whole round pieces (important due to choking hazard).
- Toast the slice of wheat bread lightly (optional), so the outside becomes a bit firmer but the inside stays soft; let the bread cool completely. Cut the bread into finger-friendly strips (about 4–6 cm long, 1–1.5 cm wide).
- Spread the cream cheese thinly and evenly on the bread strips.
- Place the halved blueberries on the cream cheese and gently press them so they stick. Make sure the pieces are large enough to grasp but not completely round.
- Serve the bread strips on a plate and offer the meal under constant supervision. Let the child reach and chew themselves — this is the principle of baby-led weaning.
Summary
A child-friendly breakfast for babies from about 10 months: wheat bread strips with cream cheese and halved blueberries. Easy to prepare, good for fostering independence in eating.
Storage
Best prepared fresh. Leftovers (without the berry topping) in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours; top the bread only shortly before serving, as the berries would otherwise soften.
Allergies & Notes
Contains milk (cream cheese) and gluten (wheat bread). Be aware of known food allergies. Halve blueberries, cut the bread to age-appropriate sizes. Never leave the child unsupervised while eating; give small amounts at first and watch for intolerance reactions.
