Instructions:

  1. Start by selecting a ripe medium-sized pineapple. Look for one that is slightly soft to the touch and has a sweet aroma.
  2. Using a sharp knife, carefully cut off the top (crown) and bottom of the pineapple to create a stable base.
  3. Stand the pineapple upright and slice down the sides to remove the tough outer skin, ensuring no ‘eyes’ (black spots) remain.
  4. Once peeled, cut the pineapple into quarters lengthwise.
  5. Remove the core from each quarter by slicing it out from the middle. This part is hard and not suitable for toddlers.
  6. Cut the pineapple quarters into finger-sized wedges. Aim for approximately 2-4 cm wide.
  7. If desired, sprinkle a very small pinch of cinnamon on top for added flavor, but this is completely optional.
  8. Serve the pineapple wedges fresh as a fun finger snack for your toddler.

Why this recipe is good for toddlers:

Pineapple is naturally sweet and packed with vitamin C, which is essential for toddlers as it supports their immune system. The soft texture of ripe pineapple makes it easy for little hands to grasp, encouraging self-feeding and developing motor skills. This recipe requires minimal preparation and no cooking, making it a perfect quick snack.

Storing Options:

The pineapple wedges can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. To keep them fresh, ensure they are tightly sealed to avoid browning.

Possible Side Effects or Allergies:

While pineapple is generally safe, some children might experience sensitivity to acidic foods, leading to mouth irritation. Always monitor for any allergic reactions or discomfort when introducing new foods.
